Hello from our winter home base in Florida.

February and March always feel like a turning point — the days begin stretching a little longer, the air hints at change, and we start thinking about the road back to Tennessee. While we’re still enjoying time with our kids and grandkids, our thoughts are slowly drifting north toward spring along the river.

This in-between season is one of anticipation — not quite winter, not quite spring — but full of planning, fresh ideas, and looking ahead to warmer days at Hidden Oasis.

We’re glad you’re along for the journey.

🏕️ What’s New at Hidden Oasis

Hidden Oasis is still enjoying its winter pause along the Tennessee River, but behind the scenes, we’re beginning to think about spring. This is the time of year when we review notes from last season, plan small improvements, and start mapping out what the months ahead will look like.

Long-term sites are typically full, but we currently have one long-term site available beginning March 1st. If you’ve been considering an extended stay, this would be a good time to reach out and learn more.

Short-stay weekends are also available now, river levels permitting. Late winter can bring changing conditions, but when the water cooperates, it’s a peaceful time to enjoy the river without the busier spring traffic.

🍃 Local Spotlight: Natchez Trace Parkway

Stretching 444 miles from Natchez, Mississippi to Nashville, Tennessee, the Natchez Trace Parkway is one of the most peaceful scenic drives in the region. For guests staying at Hidden Oasis, several access points are within easy reach, making it an easy half-day or full-day outing.

Late winter and early spring are especially beautiful along the Trace. The trees are still open enough to reveal long views across rolling hills, and early wildflowers begin appearing as temperatures rise. Pull-offs and scenic overlooks provide plenty of opportunities to stop, stretch, and enjoy the quiet.

One favorite stop is Fall Hollow Waterfall (Milepost 391.9) near Hohenwald. It’s a short, easy walk from the parking area to a small cascading waterfall — perfect for a quick stretch and a peaceful photo opportunity.

Another worthwhile stop is Meriwether Lewis Site (Milepost 385.9), which includes a small monument, interpretive displays, and wooded walking trails. It’s a quiet, reflective place that blends history and nature beautifully.

Whether you’re looking for a relaxing drive, a light hike, or simply a scenic picnic spot, the Natchez Trace offers a calm and unhurried way to spend the day — a perfect complement to a stay at Hidden Oasis.

❤️ Behind the Scenes: Winter in Florida

While we’re spending the winter in Florida with our kids and four grandkids, we’re also quietly planning our summer route. This year, we’ve already secured reservations in Washington and Oregon — including one long-awaited stop at Crater Lake. Seeing that deep blue water in person has been on my bucket list for years.

That destination carries special meaning for me. My father traveled cross-country before I was born, filming parts of his journey along the way. Watching those old home movies as a child is where my love of travel began. Visiting some of those same places decades later feels like bringing that story full circle.

Of course, before we head west, we’ll be stopping back in Tennessee. Spring along the river has its own rhythm, and there’s nothing quite like returning to Hidden Oasis as the season begins to wake up.

For now, we’re enjoying family time in Florida — but the open road is already calling.

🌅 Looking Ahead

Spring isn’t far off, and we’re already looking forward to the shift in seasons along the Tennessee River. The trees will begin to fill in, the mornings will warm up, and campfire evenings will slowly return.

As we make our way back to Tennessee before heading west this summer, we’ll spend time getting everything ready for the busier months ahead. Spring at Hidden Oasis has its own steady rhythm — quieter than peak summer, but full of fresh energy.

If you’ve been considering a visit, early spring is often one of the most peaceful times to experience the river.
