Deep Summer on the Cove

The Best Stretch of the Year on the Tennessee River

There's a stretch of summer — roughly the Fourth of July through the dog days of August — when the Tennessee River is at its absolute best, and we're right in the middle of it now. The cove is warm, the evenings stretch long and golden, and there's a steady rhythm to camp life that's hard to beat: mornings on the water, afternoons in the shade, a fire most nights once it cools off.

We may be out west chasing our own summer adventures at the moment, but Hidden Oasis doesn't slow down while we're away — if anything, this is its busiest, best season. And with the Fourth of July right around the corner, there's no better time to be on the river.

A quick word on availability as we settle into peak season: our long-term sites are all spoken for now — the wooded spots have truly found their people, which feels like a real milestone for us. But we've just had two of our waterfront sites open up on the cove, available for short-term or seasonal stays.

If you've ever wanted to wake up right on the Tennessee River, this is your chance — and in the heart of summer, waterfront sites don't tend to stay open long. Whether you're thinking a weekend, a few weeks, or settling in for the season, a spot on the cove is about as good as it gets out here. Give us a call or text at 860-202-0116 — we'd love to talk. ❤️🤍💙

Behind the Scenes

Idaho, a Broken Slide, and the Kindness of Strangers

We've spent most of this past month out west, working our way through Wyoming and up into Idaho — and somewhere along the way, Idaho quietly stole our hearts. The panhandle especially. We didn't expect it to hit us the way it did: all those lakes and pines and that particular kind of quiet you only find in places that haven't quite been discovered yet. We keep saying we'll come back, and we mean it.

Now, full-time RV life isn't always glossy, and we try to be honest about that. This month tested us. Our slide started making a horrible racket in a pretty remote stretch of the panhandle — and if you've ever needed an RV tech out in the middle of nowhere, you know that sinking feeling. There just aren't many options out there. We figured we were in for a long, stressful wait -- And then we found Rick.

Rick drove an hour and a half to reach us and diagnosed the problem on the spot. We needed a part that was tough to source on short notice, but he kept hunting until he tracked one down and had it installed within three days. On top of that, he and his wife Laurie invited us to park at his shop on their farm while we waited for the part and the repair to come together. They were gracious hosts, the farm was gorgeous, and the whole thing turned a stressful breakdown into one of the best stops of our trip.

Local Events this June

Two Ways to Spend the Fourth

If you're planning a stay around Independence Day, you're in luck — two great celebrations within easy reach, both on Saturday, July 4th. One's a fireworks show out over the water; the other's a full evening of live music. Take your pick, or do both.

Independence Day on Pickwick Lake

Saturday, July 4, 2026 · Pickwick Landing State Park, Counce, TN · ~30 miles from Hidden Oasis

The region's biggest Fourth of July fireworks display lights up the sky over Pickwick Lake — the same Tennessee River that runs past our cove, just downstream. Watching fireworks reflect off the water at Pickwick Landing State Park is about as good as summer gets out here, and it's the closest show to the campground.

Rock the Lot — Hohenwald

Saturday, July 4, 2026 · Downtown Hohenwald, TN · ~35 miles from Hidden Oasis

Now in its 8th year, Rock the Lot is Hohenwald's free Fourth of July party — and the 2026 edition celebrates America's 250th birthday. Family activities and food trucks kick off at 4 PM, two tribute acts follow (Stevie Nicks at 6, Tom Petty at 7), and a fireworks finale caps the night. Bring lawn chairs. This year's event is dedicated to local veterans and their families.

Closing Note

We hope your summer is off to a warm and easy start, and that wherever you are, you're finding a little time to slow down and enjoy it. We're grateful this month for good roads, kind strangers, and the reminder that the best part of this life is the people you meet along the way. If your travels bring you through Perry County, TN, we'd love to have you at Hidden Oasis — the cove is at its summer best, the fire pit is ready, and there's no better place to watch the Fourth light up over the water. Until next time, safe travels and happy trails.
