Cove Sites Still Open Heading Into September

Summer's Last Stretch on the Cove


Late August on the Tennessee River is that stretch where summer hasn't let go yet, but you can feel fall waiting just behind it — warm water, long evenings, and mornings that are just a little cooler than they were a few weeks ago. We're still out west (more on that below), but the cove keeps doing exactly what it does this time of year.


A quick availability update: we've got three waterfront/cove sites open for short-term or seasonal stays right now — with one exception: Labor Day weekend (September 3–7) is booked solid, so if that's the window you had in mind, we'd love to get you on the list for the next open stretch instead. Crater Lake, Yosemite, Valley of Fire, and a Front-Row Seat at Zion

Behind the Scenes


We've covered a lot of ground since the last update from the Oregon coast — down through the Cascades to Crater Lake, across the Sierra to Yosemite, out into the Nevada desert, and now parked at the gateway to Zion National Park.


Crater Lake was the one we'd been waiting decades for. Back in the 1950s, Josee's dad stood on that same rim with a home-movie camera, filming the deepest lake in the country — and that memory is the reason we live this life at all. We drove the Rim Drive, hiked up to Watchman Peak, and stood close to where his camera was rolling nearly 70 years ago to take our own picture of that impossible blue. Some things are worth the wait.


From there we dropped into the Eastern Sierra and based out of Lee Vining for a week — Yosemite's Glacier Point and the Valley in one long day, then Tuolumne Meadows and an extended hike from Soda Springs out to Twin Bridges that turned out to be one of the best of the whole summer. If you've never done the Eastern Sierra side of Yosemite instead of the Valley floor crowds, it's worth the detour.





Then came a stretch of desert — an overnight in Ridgecrest, a night outside Las Vegas, and a stop at Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada that caught us off guard. Nevada's oldest state park, all red Aztec sandstone against blue sky — we loved it enough that we're already talking about coming back in 2028, next time in spring or fall when it's not quite so brutal outside.


Right now we're parked at the gateway to Zion, and it's been a good stretch — Canyon Overlook Trail (crowded, but worth it), a drive up Kolob Terrace Road toward Kolob Reservoir that turned into more of an adventure than planned once the road got rough, and the Timber Creek Overlook Trail out at Kolob Canyons, which might be the most underrated view we've found all summer. We're saving The Narrows for one more push before we leave — early morning, before the crowds show up.


Two more months of this out west, and every stretch has us thinking about the cove a little more than the last. ❤️🤍💙

Established in 1859, this one's been bringing family fun, farming traditions, and community pride together for over 160 years. Rides, livestock, exhibits, and a real taste of local tradition.


Horseshoe Riverbend Music Festival

Saturday, September 12, 2026 · Noon–Midnight  ·  Clifton, TN (right in town)  ·  presented by City of Clifton Main Street


This one's the big one — 44 years running. A full day of live music on Main Street: Owen Brashier (noon), Bell Monroe (2 PM), Wentzel Brothers (4 PM), MIXTAPE 80's Tribute Band (6 PM), headliner Dusty Black (8 PM), and The Midnighters closing it out at 10:30 PM. Admission is $20 per person, with $5 beer wristbands available (21+, beer sold separately). No coolers or bags — bring your own chair. Vendors and food trucks on site all day.

Wherever this finds you, we hope your late summer is treating you well. Out here, we're squeezing every last hike out west before the road starts pointing back toward Tennessee — but between a festival right in town and one more county fair down the road, Clifton's got its own reasons to get outside this September.
