New Tables at All Eight Sites

Fall at Hidden Oasis

We spent a week at Hidden Oasis in October, and most of it went into one project: new picnic tables at every site.

The four cove sites got black steel tables with mesh tops. We picked those on purpose. The cove runs low through fall and winter and can come up high in the spring, sometimes higher than we'd like. Steel holds up if the water reaches it. The four wooded sites got a different style, since they sit up on higher ground.

If you're coming this fall, you'll see the cove the way it usually looks this time of year: low, quiet, and mostly meadow. The water comes back with the spring rains. Everything else is running as usual.

Two of our wooded sites are open for long-term stays: Blissful Serenity is available now, and Wooded Hideaway opens November 4. If you know someone looking for a quiet spot for the winter, call or text us at 860-202-0116, or visit hiddenoasiswhiteoaklanding.com. ❤️🤍💙

From the Red Rocks Back to the River

Behind the Scenes

After Sedona we headed east to Show Low, Arizona, for some time with family: a few meals out and plenty of card games. Then came an overnight in Gallup and a week in Farmington, New Mexico, at the Rocky Mountain Roundup, a Family RV Association rally hosted by its Rocky Mountain chapter.

On the way to Farmington we got caught up in the Northern Navajo Nation Fair parade in Shiprock. It cost us about an hour, and we didn't mind one bit.

The rally was all about the people. We met a lot of good folks and came away with some new friends. We also ate well in Farmington. Joe's Italian and a local hibachi spot were both worth a stop.

On a day off we drove up to Durango, Colorado, and walked the depot and rail yard of the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. Riding that train to Silverton is now on our list for a future trip.

On the way back we stopped at Salmon Ruins in Bloomfield. It's an ancestral Puebloan village built more than 900 years ago, and you can walk right through it: room blocks, stone walls with the original roof-beam holes, and a big round kiva.

From there it was a week of one-night stops across New Mexico, Texas, and Arkansas, close to 1,500 miles in all. The first was a pasture-raised beef farm in central New Mexico, where a calf was born in the corral right next to the coach while we were there. We spent the whole afternoon watching him find his "sea legs," wobble around, and finally figure out how to nurse from his mom. It was better than anything on TV. A few nights later we watched the sun go down over Wright Patman Lake in northeast Texas, one of the prettiest sunsets of the whole trip. Then we pulled into Clifton.

The week at the campground was a good one. Our first night back, we sat around the campfire with a couple staying with us for the first time. On Thursday we went to happy hour with our next-door neighbors, and about 20 White Oak Landing neighbors showed up. In between there were foggy mornings over the cove and a lot of table assembly. It's always good to be back on the river, even for a short visit. ❤️🤍💙

Two to Put on the Calendar

November is a quiet month around Clifton, but two events nearby are worth the drive.

If your travels bring you through Perry County, we'd love to have you. The tables are new, the fire pits are ready, and the cove will still be here when the water comes back. Until next time, safe travels and happy trails. ❤️🤍💙
