Snow is gone! Spring is coming soon! Hello Hidden Oasis subscribers! Welcome to our monthly newsletter. As promised in my initial communications, we plan to publish this newsletter just once per month to keep you all in the loop on the goings-on in White Oak Landing. Enjoy! Highlighting our little town of Clifton, TN From Mile 156-160 of the Tennessee River is Clifton, TN. Founded on the banks of the Tennessee River in 1840, this small town is a great place to enjoy the Tennessee River with a good walk, community festivals, or a summer boat ride off their marina. Clifton is also well-known for being the birthplace of Pulitzer Prize writer, T.S. Stribling.  Clifton is among the towns included in the Tennessee RiverLine ( https://www.tnriverline.org/ ). The RiverLine honors the towns located along the Tennessee River and raises awareness about their “rich history and cultural heritage.” It also emphasizes the significance of preserving and safeguarding the places we consider home. Interested in discovering more? Stop by the Greater Clifton Area Chamber of Commerce at 113 Main St. Clifton during your visit. While you're there, enjoy some coffee and sweets from the Purple Cow Eatery. The Snow is Gone BUT... This is the time of year when we monitor the river's water levels. The spring rains and mountain snowmelt lead to increased river water. Fortunately, several of our locations are situated safely above the flood zone, ensuring no concerns for our guests. Although White Oak Landing is technically located on the Tennessee River, it is actually on the section of the river known as Kentucky Lake. Kentucky Lake is a significant navigable reservoir along the Tennessee River in Kentucky and Tennessee. It was formed in 1944 by the Tennessee Valley Authority through the impounding of the Tennessee River at Kentucky Dam for purposes of flood control and hydroelectric power. Spanning 160,309 acres (649 km2), the lake is the largest artificial lake by surface area in the United States east of the Mississippi River, featuring 2,064 miles (3,322 km) of shoreline. Kentucky Lake boasts a flood storage capacity of 4,008,000 acre⋅ft (4.944 km3), which is more than 2.5 times that of the next largest lake in the TVA system. The lake extends from Pickwick Dam in Hardin County, Tennessee to Kentucky Dam in Gilbertsville, Kentucky. To learn more, visit the Kentucky Lake website at https://www.explorekentuckylake.com/kentucky-lake/ . It's Time to Begin Planning Your Summer Vacations Do you enjoy outdoor pursuits such as boating, kayaking, or paddle boarding? Relish the aroma of a campfire and the delightful taste of s'mores? Or perhaps you enjoy birdwatching and catching a glimpse of an elusive fox and her babies? If so, Hidden Oasis at White Oak is the ideal weekend retreat for you. It's been quite the summer in Tennessee with temps in 90s and hot, sticky days. What better way to cool off but to hop into the water right by your campsite or from your boat. Come visit our very own Firehouse Grill located right in White Oak Landing... The grill is typically open weekends during the summer. Great food! Our Summer Travels of 2024 continue... This month we spent time in British Columbia and Alberta Canada. If you've never been, I would highly recommend adding this location to your bucket list. Pictures below are from Peyto Lake off the Icefields Parkway in Banff National Park. Ever seen water so blue! Fun fact, the color comes from glacial "flour" created by the glaciers grinding over rock. The resulting silt flows into the lakes. The flour floats in the lake and absorbs most of the sun's rays except for the blue and green colors causing the breath-taking blue/green color of the lakes. Pictures just don't do it justice. Till next month, keep on camping!
