  • Hidden Oasis Newsletter: March 2025 Edition

Hello Hidden Oasis subscribers! Welcome to our monthly newsletter. As promised in my initial communications, we plan to publish this newsletter just once per month to keep you all in the loop on the goings-on in White Oak Landing. Enjoy! Are You a Lover of History? Attend the Tennessee River Rendezvous in Saltillo, TN April 11-12, 2025 45870 Hwy 69 Saltillo, TN 38370 This event allows the public to experience historically accurate camps. You can meet living historians, engage in hands-on activities, and hear from knowledgeable speakers. Additionally, there will be exciting reenactments from different historical periods, including the French Indian War, Civil War, and WW2. The year 2025 will mark the fifth celebration of this incredible event! Living historians from 27 different states are joining us for this occasion. We welcome everyone, including local families and home school groups, on both Friday and Saturday. The best part? Admission and parking for this event are FREE! Our average turnout is approximately 6,000 spectators over the two-day gathering. A Night of Dancing On Saturday evening, we will host a “Dance Through Time.” Here, attendees can experience and participate in music and dancing from the Colonial period, the Civil War era, and the WW2 years. This dance is a ticketed event open to the public. In addition to the historical activities, we will feature multiple period sutlers, craft vendors, a root beer saloon, and various food trucks. With something for everyone, the Tennessee River Rendezvous is an event you won't want to miss! Flooding Concerns in February 2025 February is when we closely monitor the river's water levels. The spring rains and mountain snowmelt can lead to increased river flow. Fortunately, several of our locations are safely elevated above the flood zone. This means no concerns for our guests! However, some of our lower cove spots experienced a bit of water last month due to torrential rains and melting snow. They are nice and dry now, but we learned a lesson: we need to chain down our picnic tables to prevent them from floating away into the cove. Recent Updates on Flood Management We are always researching effective methods to manage flood risks. Regular maintenance checks ensure our site remains safe and enjoyable for visitors. Safety for All Guests Our primary focus is maintaining a secure environment for everyone at Hidden Oasis. Please reach out if you have any questions about our flood management strategies. With today’s technology and resources, it's easier than ever to locate beautiful spots that cater to all kinds of campers. Let’s explore how to find an ideal RV camping retreat that fits your needs. Understanding RV Camping RV camping combines the adventure of outdoor living with the comfort of home. Offering flexibility and convenience, RVing allows you to travel and stay connected to nature without sacrificing comfort. Before you hit the road, it’s essential to understand what you want from your camping experience. Are you seeking solitude, family-friendly facilities, or exciting outdoor activities? Determining this will shape your search for the ideal retreat. Image Placeholder Researching RV Camping Locations Once you know what you want, the next step is to research camping locations. Leverage online platforms and resources to gather information on the best RV parks and campgrounds. Websites like the RV Park Reviews and Campendium offer user-generated content and ratings which can guide your decision. In addition, local tourism sites often provide information on seasonal events and attractions in different regions. Whether you’re looking for mountains, beaches, or forests, make sure to explore all options. There are also maps available that outline various RV lots and campgrounds, many of which can be found by searching for "rv lots for rent near me." Image Placeholder Essentials for Choosing an RV Campsite Selecting the right campsite is crucial for an enjoyable experience. Here are some factors to consider: 1. Amenities Check the amenities offered by the campground. Do they have showers, restrooms, and laundry facilities? Some parks also provide Wi-Fi, cable TV, and recreational activities. Consider what aspects are non-negotiable for you and your family. 2. Location Think about the location of the RV site. Is it near a lake, hiking trails, or towns with attractions? Proximity to these points of interest can significantly enhance your camping experience. 3. Space and Size The size of the campsite is essential. Ensure there is enough space for your RV, and consider the layout regarding privacy and accessibility. Reading reviews can help you understand how spacious different sites are. Planning Your RV Camping Activities An important part of your camping retreat is planning activities that everyone can enjoy. Here are some ideas: 1. Outdoor Adventures Many campgrounds are located amidst beautiful landscapes that offer hiking, biking, and fishing opportunities. Prioritize these activities and plan your daily itinerary accordingly. 2. Campfire Fun Evening campfires are a signature part of RV camping. Plan activities around the fire, such as storytelling, singing, or roasting marshmallows. It's a great way to build connections with family and friends. 3. Local Attractions If your campground is near tourist attractions, consider scheduling a day trip to explore these. Museums, state parks, and local markets can provide a nice break from traditional camping activities and make for memorable experiences. Image Placeholder Packing for Your RV Camping Retreat Packing for an RV trip can be different from traditional camping. Here are some tips for efficient packing: 1. Essential Gear Don’t forget to include essential items like cooking equipment, bedding, and personal items. Make a checklist to ensure you don’t forget anything. 2. Safety Equipment Ensure your RV is stocked with safety equipment such as fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and tools for minor repairs. It's always better to be prepared. Navigating RV Campground Rules Every RV park or campground has specific rules to ensure a safe and pleasant environment for everyone. Familiarize yourself with these guidelines before your trip. 1. Respecting Quiet Hours Most campgrounds enforce quiet hours to ensure all guests can enjoy their stay. Be mindful of your noise levels, especially in the evening. 2. Environmental Awareness Trash management and wildlife respect are vital. Follow “Leave No Trace” principles to protect the natural beauty of the area. 3. Licensing and Safety Checks Ensure your RV is roadworthy and you are compliant with local regulations. Having a valid driver’s license and insurance is fundamental for you and others’ safety. Founded on the banks of the Tennessee River in 1840, this small town is a great place to enjoy the Tennessee River with a good walk, community festivals, or a summer boat ride off their marina. Clifton is also well-known for being the birthplace of Pulitzer Prize writer, T.S. Stribling.  Clifton is among the towns included in the Tennessee RiverLine ( https://www.tnriverline.org/ ). While you're there, enjoy some coffee and sweets from the Purple Cow Eatery. The Snow is Gone BUT... This is the time of year when we monitor the river's water levels. The spring rains and mountain snowmelt lead to increased river water. Fortunately, several of our locations are situated safely above the flood zone, ensuring no concerns for our guests. Although White Oak Landing is technically located on the Tennessee River, it is actually on the section of the river known as Kentucky Lake. Kentucky Lake is a significant navigable reservoir along the Tennessee River in Kentucky and Tennessee. It was formed in 1944 by the Tennessee Valley Authority through the impounding of the Tennessee River at Kentucky Dam for purposes of flood control and hydroelectric power. Spanning 160,309 acres (649 km2), the lake is the largest artificial lake by surface area in the United States east of the Mississippi River, featuring 2,064 miles (3,322 km) of shoreline. Kentucky Lake boasts a flood storage capacity of 4,008,000 acre⋅ft (4.944 km3), which is more than 2.5 times that of the next largest lake in the TVA system. The lake extends from Pickwick Dam in Hardin County, Tennessee to Kentucky Dam in Gilbertsville, Kentucky. To learn more, visit the Kentucky Lake website at https://www.explorekentuckylake.com/kentucky-lake/ . It's Time to Begin Planning Your Summer Vacations Do you enjoy outdoor pursuits such as boating, kayaking, or paddle boarding? Relish the aroma of a campfire and the delightful taste of s'mores?
